Santa Clara County Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty

The Santa Clara County Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (SCCCADP) is working to end the use of the death penalty in our county. Please join our fight to replace this failed policy and help build a community that is safer for all of us.

David Raley

Is justice served by executing a man with the mind of a 10-year-old?

There are currently 24 people living on death row in California who were sentenced to death in Santa Clara County. David Raley is one of these 24 people and is also among the few people on death row who have exhausted their appeals. If California resumes executions, which remains unclear when or if this will happen, there is a possibility that David will be among the next to be executed. The Santa Clara Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty firmly believes that although justice and public safety require David Raley be punished and prevented from participating in society, executing this man would not be justice. Instead, we urge Governor Brown to commute David Raley's sentence from a sentence of death to imprisonment for the rest of his life.

Dear Governor, Cut This: The Death Penalty

At a time of fiscal crisis, when there are more needs than dollars, we're calling on Sacramento to cut the death penalty. We would save $1 billion in five years without releasing a single prisoner or jeopardizing public safety—$1 billion that could be spent on education and vital social services for Californians.

We know that advocates and community members from across the state are fighting to ensure that the vital social services that make the safety net for California's most vulnerable populations aren't slashed. We're here with a small piece of the solution. Need to cut something? Cut this: The Death Penalty.
